Before taking the final examination, the student shall prepare a BSc thesis / MSc thesis/ final thesis / portfolio (hereinafter referred to as: thesis.) The formal requirements of the thesis are defined in Section 6 of Study and Exam Regulation.
As part of the final exam students shall prepare
- in higher-educational vocational training – if stipulated by the programme and outcome requirements or the model curriculum – the student shall prepare a final thesis, a portfolio, or a degree thesis;
- in bachelor’s programmes, a BSc thesis;
- in teacher-training programmes, a portfolio;
- in master’s and undivided (integrated) programmes, an MSc thesis shall be prepared.
In postgraduate specialist training – according to the programme and outcome requirements – the preparation of a thesis or a diploma thesis may be required.
The preparation of the thesis is guided by a supervisor approved by the institute/department, and, if needed, an external supervisor appointed by the institute/department may also provide support. Students may also propose a thesis topic; its acceptance is decided by the programme coordinator responsible for the field, who shall seek the opinion of the institute director competent for the proposed topic before making the decision.
Submitting the thesis
Starting from the 2022/23 academic year, all theses shall be submitted uniformly via the NEPTUN SYS.

Deadline for uploading the Thesis: 4 November 2025 (Thursday) 12.00 o’clock,
Deadline for late uploading: 11 November 2025 (Thursday) 12.00 o’clock.
Deadline for identity check/plagiarism check made by the Supervisor: 5 days after submission, 3 days after late submission.
Deadline for assigning reviewers to the Thesis: 12 November 2025 (Wednesday), in case of late submission 19 November 2025 (Wednesday)
Deadline for the evaluation of the Thesis (deadline for notification of the evaluation): 01 December 2025 (Monday)
Formatting requirements, use of AI, and referencing
The formal and content requirements of theses are regulated uniformly by the University, effective from 1 September 2023, for students in bachelor’s, master’s, higher-level vocational, and undivided programmes who submit their thesis from the 2023/24 academic year onward.
The University has regulated the use of artificial intelligence; therefore, when preparing theses, this regulation (i.e., the relevant Rector’s Directive) must also be observed.
Thesis preparation guide
Effective: from 1 September 2023 for students enrolled in bachelor, master, higher vocational education and undivided one-tier programmes, who submit their thesis from the academic year 2023/24.
