Exam registration
Last modified: 07. December 2022
The model curricula of the degree courses determine how the subjects taken should be completed. In the case of subjects with an exam or a comprehensive exam, you can apply for the exam/comprehensive exam (hereinafter referred to as the exam) via NEPTUN TR.
How to register for exam?
Registration is only possible on NEPTUN TR for one of the exam dates announced by the institutes in the Exams - Exam Registration menu.
Change the date of your exam
The deadline for registering and cancelling registration for an exam is at 12:00 (noon) the day before the exam, and the exam registration and cancellation of registration shall be done in Neptun System
Examination procedures
A student shall participate in the exam only if he / she proves his / her identity with a valid document proving identity (identity card, new type of driving license, passport).
The student must sign the attendance sheet at the start of the exam.
The student is recommended to bring the course completion sheet printed from Neptun System for the oral exam. The examiner will record the grades for the oral exam on the course completion sheet and the exam sheet printed from Neptun System, and sign both the course completion and the exam sheet. The student acknowledges the grade by signing the exam sheet. In case of a dispute, the exam sheet is the primary document for the oral examination.
Important information and rules
- Only students who have no expired debts in NEPTUN TR may apply for the exam.
- Registration for examinations is only possible for subjects registered.
- A student who has not registered for an exam at NEPTUN TR shall not be allowed to sit the exam.
- You can only register for one examination date per subject at the same time.
- At least three days must elapse between examinations in a subject in the case of a regular examination, and at least five days in the case of a comprehensive examination.
- You can take exams for one subject a total of three times per semester. (For difficult subjects, it is advisable to register for one of the first exams, so that there is still time to retake the exam if you did not pass.)
- A student can take a total of six exams in a subject during his study programme. If the student has exhausted the six examination options, the University must dismiss the student in accordance with Act CCIV of 2011 on National Higher Education. Even in fairness, no further exams are allowed. The number of examinations used does not include examinations for which the student has registered in NEPTUN TR but has not appeared for the examination, but in case of an unexcused absence the absence fee will be charged.
- In case of retaking a subject, the number of examinations taken is cumulated.
Absence from an exam
If a student registers for an exam but fails to appear for the exam and does not provide proof of absence by the end of the exam period at the latest, he/she will be charged an absence fee.
If the student can justify his/her absence from the examination (e.g. illness), he/she must submit the request for proof of absence and the supporting document to the institute/department responsible for the subject no later than 5 working days after the examination.
No absence fee is payable in the event of an justified absence.
Recording exam grades
The examiner teacher must record the result of the exam in NEPTUN TR within 3 working days after the exam at the latest.
The correctness of the recorded grades must be continuously followed during the examination period and, in case of any discrepancies, shall be reported to the competent institute/instructor.
The staff of the campus registrar's office DOES NOT HAVE ANY RIGHT TO RECORD GRADES. The only and exclusive way to make up a missing grade or correct an incorrectly recorded grade is through consultation between the instructor and the student and by filing a request of raising objection. (Available in Neptun TR, Exams menu, Taken exams submenu, + mark options , submit request: raising objection, available from the end of exam period.)
Improving exam grades
Successful and unsuccessful examinations can be improved under the conditions laid down in the SER. (https://ed.uni-mate.hu/rules-regulation1)
How to fix a failed exam?
A maximum of two attempts of an examination could be retaken after a faild attempt (1st) (hereafter referred to as 2nd a "retaken exam" and 3rd a "repeated retaken exam") of the same subject within one examination period, a total of three attempts.
The first two exams in the subject are free of charge (exam, retaken exam), each additional exam (repeated retaken exam) is subject to a repeated exam fee.
How to improve a successful exam?
In two subjects per examination period, the student has the advantage of being able to improve the mark obtained in the examination.
If the student receives a failed grade in this retaken exam, the credits previously earned in the subject will be lost and the student will have to repeat the retaken exam again.(Using his/her 3rd attempt.)
If the student obtains a mark other than a fail in the retaken exam, this will be his/her final mark, even if it is worse than the original grade.
Improving a successful exam reduces the number of possible exams in that subject.
A successfully completed subject is indicated by a green tick next to the subject name in NEPTUN TR (subject completion indicator).
Offered grade
Information about the offered grade can be found in the Subject Types section of SER.
